Exercising Update

Saturday was the six week anniversary of working out at the gym. Of course, I did have two and a half weeks when I was sick and didn't attend the gym at all, but for the most part, I'm there every day.

I am getting much more stamina in the gym. I used to think 30 minutes on the treadmill was good, and now I walk on the tread mill only after I've done the "real" workout. I see it as a way to cool down. I've even started to do "core work" (groan) every day.

I'm still working twice a week with Adrian

and now, I look like this:

Okay, maybe not so much. I have been shocked, to tell the truth, at how slow my weight loss has been. Of course, exercise is only part of the solution, but I am more active than I have ever been, and I thought that activity would do the trick. I guess that folks were telling the truth when they said that it's hard to lose weight when you're approaching 50.

Nevertheless, I have lost a couple of inches, I do feel stronger, I have more energy, and I feel proud of myself.

You SHOULD be proud! I am thoroughly impressed with your perseverence. I always thought thirty minutes on the treadmill is pretty much akin to the triathalon, too. Huh.

Go you! That's awesome.

FWIW, I would not want to look like that girl. I bet that look is a lot of work. ;)

Losing weight and keeping it off...yeah harder and harder.

A few things I learned in WW that are secret factors working against your weight loss: not enough sleep, not enough water, eating too little, and being too stressed.

Anyway for me it was a slow start and then a good clip and then took forever to get the last 7 lbs off. TG for WW; they kept my chin up.

GL...with this effort you're achieving healthy, not a doubt in my mind.

You should feel proud. It's great!
Weight loss or no you know what you're doing is healthy--that's the most important thing. Keep it up!

I say, who cares about the weight loss. It will come, or not, but you are doing something GOOD for yourself! Yeah! I'm glad it is making you feel good, and proud.

I happy that you are feeling proud-that alone is worth all the sweat, right.

Keep feeling good!
I've been back to jazzercise for a few months and I am not losing weight very quickly.

It bums me out.

But. Like you, I am feeling stronger and better all the time.

Keep it up. I know it can be boring and difficult, but the health benefits are enormous.

Feeling good is so much more important than what the scale says. I have a pair of pants (that currently are a little tight) that I slide into about every two weeks to judge how I'm doing.

Good for you!

I'll bet you are replacing fat with muscle, which weighs more. For several weeks after starting Jazzercise I didn't see any difference on the scale but felt the difference in my clothes. My WW leader said that is normal. Did you know that every pound of muscle we have uses 25 calories a day, just by being there? (From The Culprit & the Cure by Steven Aldana). Congrats on your new stamina! That's a great thing to have in and of itself.

I'm proud of you! I have missed your posts and have been wondering...is she working out ALL the time? That is so great that you have gotten in a regular groove and that your stamina is building. Your body is going to wake up and realize you are really doing this and start changing before your eyes. And I hope Adrian is as fun a trainer as he looks.

Oh, and LOVE that beautiful header photo!

Good for you! I have a friend who is married to a runner and she is not a runner at all. BUT! She purchased a pedometer and strapped it on first thing in the morning. The going wisdom says that good health requires 10,000 steps per day. At the end of the day she took off around the neighborhood to finish off her steps. I've never seen weight fall off of a person so quickly. And painlessly.
