Okay, so we lost

You all know that I am a die-hard Senator Clinton fan. I have loved her and supported her through campaign misteps and misstatements in large part because she offered us the first (and possibly only) opportunity to vote for a good person who was also a woman.
But now that is over. I keep hearing that there are many women who are sad and angry and ready to vote for Senator McCain. I keep hearing that women need a reason (besides the war and healthcare and Roe) to vote for Obama.

Okay, my feminist friends, here it is. Carol McCain.

Carol McCain is Senator McCain's first wife. She is the woman who waited for him while he was in Vietnam. She is the woman who had a tragic automobile accident while John was a prisoner of war and had to undergo losing much of her mobility, four inches of her height, and much of her "classic" beauty without his help. And then McCain returned from Vietnam and opted for the life of a playboy and a star without his faithful, and still beautiful wife. He later got a younger, prettier model--the wife we all are familiar with--Cindy McCain.

You all know I am a yellow dog democrat, and I was never likely to vote for a Republican as long as issues of public health, women's choice, and civil rights for gays and lesbians were still issues, but for you my friends, I offer yet another reason to vote for Senator Obama.

McCain's a dog.

And that's not fair to dogs.

Thank you, Hillary, for offering me the opportunity to vote for a woman I respect. Thank you for your service, your vision, your heart.

Now. On to the future.

We can only hope that Obama gets in. I know that he is quite popular, but I have doubts that the election process is altogether...shall we say, fair, these days. Still, we can only look ahead and band together to get this administration OUT.

It's about time.

The idea that a Democrat (much less a female Democrat) would vote for McCain makes me snort-that's called wasting a vote. Obama won fair and square and would you take a look at the woman he's married to-no shrinking violet.

Senator Clinton is a strong and amazing woman. I don't think any future female presidential candidate (can you believe I can now write this?) will take as much sexist shit as she did. She took one for the team, and I thank her for that.
Amen. You said it all.

I never knew all that about Carol McCain, but I can tell you that Cindy gives me the heebie jeebies. I was a Hillary supporter, too, and I would never even think of crossing over to the McCain side now that she is out.

I've rarely heard the term "cutting off your nose to spite your face" more perfectly illustrated than by the idea of moving from the Hilary camp to McCain. Yeesh.

Missed you around here lately, I hope Gold's Gym hasn't claimed you completely. :P

Though I'm not minimizing President Clinton's wayward straying, I have to say that the NeoCon media has milked that blowjob enough to make cheese out of it. However, YOU KNOW they won't say shit about McCain's brand of family values. I'm just saying. I pray to the goddess that thinking/rational Democrats don't vote for McCain simply because Obama's NOT Clinton. Because...uh...McCain's SO NOT Clinton either.

I supported Hillary until it just became clear that Obama was going to take the nomination. I really wanted to have a woman president. That being said, Obama is everything the we democrats could ask for and more and while I may cry a tear or two for HC, I'm behind him all the way!
I feel dumb: I didn't know about Carol McCain.

That just makes me sad...

I agree with you one hundred million times over.

My dear dog George wants you to know that he's no McCain. I had his balls cut off last week and he's still completely devoted to me.

Ok.. that was perhaps the most tasteless thing I could say but I couldn't resist. Sorry.

Senator Clinton has a lot to be proud of. Democrats in general have a lot to be proud of. After so many years of apathy we actually have candidates that fire people up. Both have given us new hope for the future.
I've thought from the beginning that women that were saying they'd go from Clinton to McCain were just speaking in the heat of the moment and that cooler heads would eventually prevail.

This was interesting news to me, but I have to agree with K. that Cindy McCain already gave me the heebee geebees.

Republicans and Family Values seems to have become quite the oxymoron.

Well said.

Add to that the fact that even neofascist George Will says that a vote for McCain is a vote for war in Iran and McCain consistently votes against women's issues and agaist actual support for the troops while voting for their continued presence in a free-fire zone and... and...

I was a Kucinich guy but Obama will do me just fine, especially compared to anything the Republicans have to offer.

Frank - another yellow-dog Democrat

Left-commie-pinko reporting in here - I am bummed about Hillary, but completely behind Barack. Have to be. McCain is a scary dude.

Great post. Thank you, because not many people are talking about the first wife.

My mother was a yellow dog democrat, and I have never heard anyone else use the term. Cool.

I've always wondered if the present Mrs McCain was the original model... Now I know. My opinion about him hasn't changed one iota because of it - he was a scary dude before this "revelation" and she just seemed to be a perfect fit for him - IMHO.
My money was on HC as well but I have no problem backing Obama (for all it's worth, coming from a Swedish left-commi-pinko...)

Yep. That pretty much sums it up for me as well.

Amen. And you've heard that McCain once called Cindy a trollop and a c-word in front of staffers, right?

He called his wife the c-word, people, and this was his TROPHY wife.
