Artist of the Year!

Well, Susan and I went to a local art group for their annual Artist of the Year celebration today. Artists who had won artist of the month were eligible to bring those paintings for judging. There were several nice paintings. Take into account the fact that the lighting was not especially good, so any work under glass had a glare, and take into account that the photographer is a bit cockeyed.

Susan really liked this painting of a doll with a flower and shell. It didn't do much for me, but what do I know?

This is a nice vase of sunflowers by a woman I know.

I loved this jazzman.

And this pleased me.

There were others that didn't photograph well. What, these were well photographed?

But this brings me to the highlight of the afternoon. The artist of the year at Coppini Gallery is. . . (drumroll, please):

Yes, the lovely redhead is my Susan. And she won for her painting "Evening Comfort." I am very proud of her.

Well I can see why she won!! Wow!! I have to say the last one is the only one that captured me until I scrolled down to Susan's. What lovely cheeks. Congratulations to her. What an honor.

And very deservedly so. That painting is gorgeous - there is something so compelling about the woman's face. I love it!

Hooray, and congratulations Susan! Clearly the best on color, technical skillz, and "artsyness," because that's a word, right? Congratulations again.

Thank you all very much! Karen's extraordinarily supportive of my work, because, well, she kind of has to be, right? But you all.... you're very kind to say such nice things.
Thank you.

Clearly, hers was the best entry. The light is warm and comforting. And the whole composition of it is appealing. Congratulations to her! It was well-deserved.

This is a beautiful portrait. Truly.

I have to ask: are you the lovely model/muse? No, too personal. I'll scurry off now.

Melanie,
No, I am not the lovely model. It is odd though because I'm often lounging on the couch half-naked while I think deep thoughts.

Once again I LOVE Susan's art...that piece is FANTASTIC. Emotion, light, balance, intriguing story...my kind of art.

Did not care for any of the rest EXCEPT the older woman gazing across the road to the prairie and tree line. Fabulous, that.

The jazz one is okay but something about the perspective, lines, light and emotion is off for me. Wow, that sounds like scathing criticism. No, it's okay just slightly off...if on it might be great.

Someday maybe I can afford a Susan painting. Life will have to give me that chance.

In the meantime, I did finally frame (albeit not as well as I would have liked) my black and white Boston series. It ended up in the office.

Does Susan ever show or compete in any of the juried exhibitions at TAACCL?

Congratulations to your Susan. Wonderful...and most deserved.
Congrats to Susan. It's an amazing painting; so impressed.

(I'm surrounded by a fledgling painting daughter and my husband paints too. I'll have to show him...I know he'll love the lighting.)

Evening Comfort is just amazingly lovely. The look in the eyes of both the woman and the dog--the dog's paw on her calf. . . I would be very happy to have this hanging in my home. Oh, it's just beautiful, Susan.

And Prof. J, your comment above cracked me right UP!
